Bermuda-based Platinum Underwriters Holdings has appointed Gregory Morrison as president and chief executive.
Morrison will replace Jerome Fadden, who will act as a consultant to the company in the future.
The appointment marks a departure for the company which, was sold-off by the St Paul Companies in 2002.
In its first quarter of operation as a separate company, Platinum also reported a profit of $30.6m (£19m).
