Your postcode dictates the cost of home insurance, according to the AA's latest report.
The figures suggest the existence of a north / south price divide, with premiums varying by over 300% across the country. The report found that home insurance costs are highest in London, averaging £250 a year, and lowest in the northeast, averaging £167.
AA Insurance Services managing director Andrew Briscoe said: "Postcode has an important bearing on the cost of contents insurance. In densely-populated cities cover will always be more expensive."
Regional crime levels were highlighted as a key factor behind the regional inequality. Briscoe added: "Insurers also take into account factors such as each area's susceptibility to storm or flood damage."
However the report concluded that the average UK cost has fallen by over %5 since last year.
