The Policyholders' Protection Board (PPB) has set up a temporary website to cope with the overwhelming demand for information about Independent Insurance.

The PPB had been heavily criticised by Independent policyholders for the lack of information it has released, although it has been in talks with provisional liquidators Pricewaterhousecoopers and the British Insurance Brokers' Association.

The policyholdersprotectionboard.org.uk site became operational last week and answers basic questions on who is entitled to compensation.

PPB claims manager Roger Clem-ents said the first priority had been to ensure policyholders in hardship situations received compensation.

The PPB has already paid out more than £400,000 to 50 hardship cases.

“After that, we'll turn our attention to the vast majority of eligible policyholders with outstanding claims,” Clements said.
