Preston law firm MWR Solicitors has struck a blow for the insurance industry after successfully defending two "phantom passenger" claims.
One of the cases surrounded a Leeds man who submitted a personal injury claim against MMA Insurance after a car collided into the back of his vehicle, injuring himself and an alleged passenger. However, MMA Insurance claimed there was no passenger in the car at the time.
Both claims for personal injury were discontinued before the case went to trial.
The second case centred on an Oldham-based businessman who submitted a claim for personal injury along with two genuine and two alleged passengers.
All five claims for personal injury were discontinued before the case went to Oldham County Court.
MWR Solicitors' Peter Meloy said: "We have recently had an unprecedented level of success with four cases listed for trial in the space of two weeks all discontinued.
"The claimants tested the resolve of our insurance clients but they stood firm against the aggressive tactics adopted by the claimant's solicitors."
