Insurance provider Primary Direct has launched a cross-sell initiative that offers customers savings on their home and pet insurance costs.

The direct sell insurer is offering its home insurance customers a 5% discount on their combined buildings and contents policy if they own a dog.

This increases to a 10% discount if the customer also has a Primary Direct pet insurance policy.

The creation of the offer follows company research that found that 13% of homeowners believe that burglars are deterred from committing their crime when there is a dog in the house.

Primary said the offer was currently available to all its direct customers, but could also be packaged as an affinity offer, available to the customers, members, or employees of any organisation looking to add value to their benefits package for such groups.

Primary head of business development Nick Wright said: "We shall be actively selling our cross-sell package to our affinity customers and looking to open new doors within the affinity market.

"We are now in a position to be able to build cross-sell incentives into this range, to extend the benefit of our products still further and will vigorously pursue this type of business during 2002."
