The threat of industrial action against the Prudential over job losses moved a step closer following a meeting of union officials yesterday.

Amicus representatives were locked in talks until late last night to protest over the plans to transfer work to India and to close the company's pension plan.

The Union made it clear that a ballot for industrial action will be held if the company does not reverse its plans.

An Amicus official said: "If the company does not backtrack, we are firmly committed to industrial action to try to save jobs."
