The Irish Insurance Federation's (IIF) anti-fraud telephone service, Insurance Confidential, has dealt with 1003 cases of suspected fraud since the service opened in February.

IFF chief executive Michael Kemp said: "There is a strong level of interest and support for the Federation's anti-fraud campaign, and a real public desire for action against fraudulent claimants."

Kemp said Insurance Confidential had received calls from people connected to suspected fraudulent claimants, including relatives, friends, neighbours, customers, employers, employees and work colleagues.

The 1003 cases break down into the following insurance categories;
· 63% motor claims
· 22% non-motor personal injury (employer's and public liability)
· 8% property
· 7% other types
