Former Royal & Sun Alliance group chief executive, Bob Mendelsohn, was paid £1.4m in compensation after he stepped down, according to Bloomberg.
The report revealed that during his time as R&SA's chief, Gunn received a salary and allowances of more than £1m a year.
Andy Haste takes over as chief executive later this month after leaving rival insurer Axa.
