Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA) is to close its corporate commercial offices in Liverpool and Reading.

The move is part of the insurer's strategic programme to improve its efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and will take effect by 31 March 2004.

Eighty-six employees will be affected - 52 in Reading and 34 in Liverpool. Wherever possible they will be offered redeployment opportunities in other parts of the organisation.

R&SA corporate business director Brendan McManus said: "The service standards experienced by brokers and end customers will not be compromised by the office closures. By concentrating the resources of our corporate commercial business in fewer locations we will further improve the speed and efficiency of our underwriting and operations, preserving our lead position in terms of broker and customer service."
