Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA) faces a legal challenge over asbestos payouts following a report that Cape has bought a lawsuit against the insurer over its liability claims.
It is understood that the case will go before the High Court in March with Cape demanding £2.2m to cover claims it has already paid.
Cape alleges that R&SA is liable for claims made by people who suffered asbestos related health problems because of work done by Andersons Insulation.
Cape bought Andersons, which the suit said was insured by Royal Insurance from 1932 to 1965, in 1963.
