Royal & Sunalliance (R&SA) was the insurer with the highest number of positive press mentions in June, after being one of the first insurers to step in to take over Independent's business.
The company took over 450,000 of Independent's council tenant policyholders and thus benefited from the rash of publicity that the crisis set in motion, appearing in 84 articles.
Prior to the collapse of Independent, R&SA had been suffering from some unfavourable press comments, as a result of its latest advertising campaign, “Where's Lucky?”
Its portrayal of a pet owner looking for his lost dog backfired when it was seen as promoting illegal fly-posting with a promise to cover such costs. The Canine Defence League also rounded on the insurer.
Direct Line and Primary Direct also received large amounts of publicity, with 58 mentions each.
