Royal & Sun Alliance (R&SA) saw its shares top the FTSE 100 performance table in the second quarter.
The strong performance followed a sharp fall in its share price in the first three months that pushed the insurer out of the blue-chip index for the first time since its inception in 1984.
R&SA then rejoined the FTSE 100 in the June reshuffle.
Analysts said that R&SA benefited from investors' turning toward companies whose shares were knocked back during the downturn of the first quarter.
