Specialist income protection providers Pioneer Friendly received its highest ever number of applications in one month in September 2003. It was the highest number of applications recorded in the society's 115-year history.
Pioneer attributed the growth to the launch of its Pure Protection Plan, which the society believes is the only non-regulated income protection plan available in the Friendly Society market.
National sales manager, Phil Calvert said they had seen an increase in the number of protection plans written in the blue collar and self-employed markets.
