A rehabilitation service aimed at reining in the soaring cost of personal injury claims was launched this week.

Health & Case Management (HCML) plans to offer case management services through brokers to the personal injury market.

Services will include post injury assessment and rehabilitation co-ordination.

The venture, which aims to cut claims costs by 10%, will be led by former chief of AIG Medical and Rehabilitation Helen Merfield.

Sources close to the company said HCML was aiming to generate £500,000 in revenue in its first 12 months.

It claims to have several nationwide brokers and large insurers on board and is in talks with others.

HCML managing director Helen Merfield said: "HCML has developed an innovative approach, drawing on systems, which have been tried and tested internationally and specifically adapted for the UK market.

"Our aim is to benefit all involved and improve rehabilitation services available throughout the country."

The IUA welcomed HCML's arrival, claiming insurers' use of rehabilitation has risen since the publication of its rehabilitation code.
