Retirement Insurance, a new independent insurance company, has opened for business today.
The company said it would specialise in offering home and travel insurance to those in or approaching retirement.
Motor insurance would become available within the next month, said the company, and there are plans to extend products to include motor breakdown assistance and household appliance cover.
The man responsible for the company is David Holden, who was responsible for the launch of Saga Insurance and RIAS.
he said being an independent company gave Retirement Insurance a distinct advantage because "it is not obliged to offer policies underwritten by any particular insurance company.
"Consequently, we can ensure that clients have the cover that is best for their individual needs."
