Five-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Steven Redgrave would be accustomed to pomp and ceremony, but Backchat is not sure even he was prepared for the opening of the Call Connection's new offices in Ipswich.

In return for opening the offices, Call Connection agreed to donate £1,000 to the charity that Redgrave supports, which raises money for children's projects. The firm also pledged a further £1,000 to the local paper, the Evening Star, for its crusade to help children with special needs in Ipswich.

The catch? Ever the visionary, Call Connection's managing director Graeme Kalbraier decided to test Redgrave's competitive nature, giving him 30 seconds to open the building. Redgrave had to row fast enough to generate enough air pressure to force a giant USB cable into a socket at the top of the building. Once the cable connected, there was an explosion of confetti.

Backchat is sure Sigmund Freud would have something to say about the whole business...
