Royal Mail has awarded DriveTech (UK) a gold award for helping it to cut its £17m annual accident bill.

DriveTech has been working with Royal Mail since 2002 to provide specialist defensive driving courses with the aim of reducing accidents and injuries across Royal Mail's fleet.

Robert Albright, Royal Mail's head of operations purchasing, said: "The objective of the training is to reduce accidents and injuries, and therefore costs, by 25%."

Last year there were 20,000 accidents involving Royal Mail vehicles. It has committed to putting 500 employees through the training by March 2004.
