Former RBS boss took helm of insurer in February

RSA’s new chief executive Stephen Hester has been appointed to the ABI’s board.

Hester joins several other general insurance company leaders on the board, including AXA UK chief executive Paul Evans, Direct Line Group chief executive Paul Geddes and Zurich UK general insurance chief executive Stephen Lewis.

Hester, previously chief executive of the Royal Bank of Scotland, took the helm of RSA on 4 February after the departure of chief executive Simon Lee.

Lee left amid the furore about RSA’s Irish operations, which were found to have accounting and reserving problems.

Fixing the problems pushes RSA into a £244m pre-tax loss in 2013.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
