The Chartered Insurance Institute's (CII) director general, Dr Sandy Scott, has been elected chairman of the Institute for Global Insurance Education (IGIE), a group of not-for-profit organisations concerned with education and training for insurance professionals worldwide.
The CII was one of the founder members of the IGIE in 1997.
It now has 19 members from 14 different countries.
Dr Scott commented: "I am looking forward to driving the aims and initiatives of the IGIE at such a key stage in its development. The IGIE's increasing membership shows the importance of insurance education organisations coming together to address common goals for the development and recognition of insurance education standards.
"One of my key targets will be to establish core foundation insurance, reinsurance and risk management education needs across different international markets. The IGIE intends to run foundation programmes online in these areas."
