As part of National Fire Prevention Week, Bank of Scotland Business Insurance (BOSBI) has urged businesses to check they have adequate cover against fire damage.

Last year fire related damage at commercial industries amounted to £750m, an increase of 16% from the previous year, claimed BOSBI.

Small businesses operating from single premises are especially vulnerable to fire damage and must ensure they are properly covered, it said.

Jerry White, head of BOSBI, said small businesses needed to consider issues such as how to continue trading in the event of fire damage to the premises.
