Insurance intermediary Hyperformance Insurance has warned motorists that being caught speeding on camera and being convicted will be surprisingly costly - as well as receiving fines it will push up their insurance premiums.
This is more of a threat than ever before as more and more speeding cameras are set up on Britain's roads.
This happens when insurers renew their policies as customers have to declare whether they have any new speeding convictions.
This can increase motor premiums significantly.
Marketing director Steve McPherson explained: "Most insurance companies are relatively lenient on the first offence and impose a relatively modest increase, but they adopt a much harsher stance on the second and third offences by raising premiums to such a level that motorists could be potentially driven off the road."
Speeding convictions are soaring. Recent figures show that in London, for example, there are now 5,522 convictions a year - up from 2,983.
