The success of Thames Valley Police's Speed Awareness Scheme, aimed at motorists caught speeding, has led to the opening of a new centre in Milton Keynes.
From the end of July speeding drivers will be given the option of attending a speed awareness course at the Safety Centre in Buckinghamshire rather than paying a fixed penalty fine.
Run as part of the Thames Valley Police's Speed Awareness Scheme in conjunction with DriveTech, courses are already being offered at venues in Crowthorne, Berkshire and Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire. More than 34,000 motorists have attended the scheme since its launch almost two years ago.
Nealy 90% of motorists caught speeding by Thames Valley Police have taken up the option, where offered, of attending a three-hour speed awareness course instead of paying a fixed penalty fine and getting three points on their driving licence.
