As footballers' wages continue to rocket, so personal indemnity payouts are set to soar.
This week Sportsure paid out its first major claim – a six-figure sum to a first division striker whose career had been cut short through injury.
The scheme was originally underwritten by CGU, but it was switched to Groupama earlier this year.
Sportsure was set up through insurance brokers Hanover Park Group. The scheme was devised by former Tottenham and England defender Gary Stevens who recognised the need for such a policy after his own playing career ended because of injury.
An increasing number of footballers, including premiership players such as Dennis Wise (Chelsea) and Nigel Martyn (Leeds), are now taking out Sportsure polices as a way of protecting their financial future.
