AM Best affirmed the financial strength rating of St Paul International as A (Excellent).
It said the rating reflected the company's importance to its ultimate parent, The St Paul Companies, which was also rated A (Excellent).
Other factors which influenced the rating included St Paul's good risk-adjusted capitalisation, improved underwriting performance and excellent business profile, said AM Best.
An offsetting factor was the potential exposure to the run off of discontinued business lines.
AM Best said the outlook was stable.
