Loss adjuster GAB Robins said that while the storms in Northern England and Scotland appeared to have caused extensive damage, it had not been forced to implement its Disaster Plan.

GAB said the majority of claims appeared to be for roof damage but there had also been significant losses in the personal lines sector.

It added that it had received a number of claims particularly for schools, construction sites and local industries in Scotland.

The company said it was working with insurers to ensure that emergency repairs were carried out.
