SunGuard Availability Services has won a seven-year contract with Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA) to supply all of its workplace recovery services within the UK.

As part of the deal, SunGuard said it would supply more than 6,000 workplace recovery positions across 13 UK sites. The contract also includes a `rapid reaction unit', which SunGuard said would enable R&SA's control management team to direct business from a mobile office in the event of severe business disruption.

SunGuard said it would also supply a mobile telephone switch service, in the event of R&SA's telephone system going down.

The business continuity company said it beat Schlumberger Sema and ICM to the contract.
