Leading insurance broker Swinton has invested £2m in a major upgrade of its branch network technology.

The high street insurance broker has installed Windows-based 'thin client technology', which stores data centrally. The company claims the system will cut costs.

Using Synstar as their implementation partner, it installed new branch servers, printers and new cabling infrastructure.

Swinton IT Director, Adrian Hazeldine, said: "We needed to replace our existing hardware and put in place a solid infrastructure for the future, which would allow us to continue to use our current application and also introduce other browser based applications and content.

"The new infrastructure will aid our trading relationships with insurers, through the use of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange), email and other electronic communication.

"It will also allow us to gain more value from our customer database through having more data available at all points of customer contact - making our service slicker, more efficient and generally keep Swinton ahead of the competition."
