Tim Carroll gets lead roll

Tim Carroll, former UK chief executive of Swiss Re, has been appointed underwriting director at Canopius Managing Agents, effective from next month.

Carroll will replace Jim Giordano as active underwriter at Canopius’s Syndicate 4444.

Giordano will now focus on his other role as head of international operations and chief underwriting officer at Canopius Group.

Syndicate 4444 is expected to write more than £600m of business this year.

Canopius posted record profit of £33m last year, with gross written premium up 89% to £455m.

Carroll, who left Swiss Re earlier this month after a management restructure, will report to Canopius chief executive Michael Watson.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
