Health and safety consultant LPMS has hit out at European Commission proposals to give temporary workers the same rights as permanent employees.

LPMS managing director Tony Hall said: "All affected parties look set to lose out if this draft directive is enforced."

He added; "If the employers decide they aren't getting any benefits from using temporary staff, then the tens of thousands of temps will find themselves unemployed. The attractions for many of them of flexible working and working in a wide variety of organisations will no longer be available."
