Towergate Underwriting Group has announced the appointment of Tim Johnson as chief executive of the group.
Peter Cullum, executive chairman of Towergate said: "Towergate has been enormously successful in the first phase of its development over the last six years and we are now commencing the second phase of growth."
Cullum added: "Tim is an important component of our restructuring to maximise the potential of the group companies and utilise the talents of our people." He added that the group planned to double in size over the next two years through a combination of acquisition and organic growth.
Group communications director Paul Dyer said: "The group is extremely well placed to benefit from the changes being wrought by regulation. We are continually seeking to acquire scheme business, companies or portfolios and we see no limit to our growth potential in specialist underwriting. Tim is the first of a number of appointments designed to help us manage the challenge of the next five years."
Previously Johnson was chief operating officer of Aon's UK affinity business. He held a number of senior positions with Aon, having started his career at Royal Insurance.
