The FSA's insurance chief, John Tiner, has been tipped to become the next chief executive at the regulator.
According to a report in the Financial Times, Tiner is a leading favourite to land the £300,000 a year post. His competition is likely to come from Carol Sergeant, the FSA's head of regulatory process and risk.
The report claimed that despite advertising the post externally, the four-strong Treasury interview panel prefers an internal promotion.
The applications procedure closes at the end of May. A decision is expected by the end of June.
