Belfast-based private motor broker Tom Gillespie Insurance Services has been publicly reprimanded by the GISC for falsely supplying a customer with insurance documentation.

A GISC statement said: "The GISC Enforcement Committee found that Tom Gillespie had created, and sent to a customer, insurance documentation when no insurance cover was in place.

"The Committee wishes to make it clear that members must wait to receive insurance documentation from underwriters and then promptly forward it to the insured."

In a separate case, GISC fined personal and commercial lines broker Alan Bickle [trading as AB Financial Services] £3,500 for failing to deal properly with a customer complaint and failing to respond to GISC's requests for information regarding the complaint.

AB Financial, based in Hertfordshire, was also ordered to pay £250 in compensation to the customer. GISC disciplinary tribunal chairman Roger Eastman said: "Overall, the tribunal finds Mr Bickle's attitude to his responsibilities as a regulated professional to the regulated body which he joined, to be lamentable."
