Vehicle security specialist Tracker has announced it helped retrieve 1,300 stolen vehicles last year.
The total, representing £32m worth of vehicles, marked a 45% increase on the 2001 target.
Tracker marketing manager Michelle McLaughlin said: "Obviously it has been a good year for Tracker customers and a bad year for thieves who came into contact with Tracker systems, but thought they had got away scot-free.
"Last year brought with it a heightened awareness of vehicle crime especially with the worrying trend of car-jacking, which came to the fore in the early part of the year. We look forward to helping even more of our customers sleep easy in 2003."
