Travel insurers have withdrawn cover for SARS for those travelling to infected areas.
According to reports in The Guardian, insurers have placed an exclusion zone around Canada, Hong Kong and China.
Travellers have been warned that they will not be covered for infection by SARS. In some cases, all insurance cover has been refused.
Direct Line said it would not provide cover for SARS for those travelling to Toronto, but would cover cancellation costs for those travelling up to the 24 April..
And American Express said it would not sell travel insurance to any destination where the Foreign Office has issued a warning. Anyone visiting these locations would have their policies invalidated.
Insurers are also experiencing cancellation claims arising from SARS. But according to the ABI few policies are likely to provide cover for cancellation charges.
