Travel insurance broker PJ Hayman & Company has reported that an increasing number of travel insurers are tightening their terms of acceptance for people with pre-existing medical conditions.
The company, which became part of Lloyd's broker Crispin Speers & Partners in March this year, said underwriters were being more selective as the costs of medical claims increased.
Company founder Peter Hayman said: "We have seen a marked increase in the number of people who have been refused cover elsewhere calling our Free Spirit Solutions Scheme seeking cover for their pre-existing medical conditions.
"Where we used to see more serious cases under this scheme, such as terminal prognosis and heart conditions, there are now many people calling us with relatively minor complaints who have not been provided cover elsewhere."
