Workplace deaths have increased for the second year, prompting Trades Union Congress (TUC) calls for the government to act on its promise of a corporate killing law.

TUC general secretary Jon Monks said the figures, released by the Centre for Corporate Accountability, were a stark reminder that the government needed to get tough on employers that broke health and safety laws.

"It's time for ministers to honour the promises they have made about new laws, new crimes and new funding," he said.

The TUC also wants higher penalties for safety offences and more resources for the Health & Safety Executive.
