Three out of four UK consumers feel let down by the government's failure to provide adequate flood defences, according to a survey commissioned by Norwich Union.

The insurer has launched a national campaign, Home and Dry, to help people in high-risk areas form action groups.

Norwich Union's head of household products, Nick Pierson, said: "There are almost 2m residential and commercial properties at risk from flooding in the UK."

NU's decision to launch this campaign is to raise the awareness of flooding in the hope the general public will begin lobbying MPs and to take better precautions to protect their properties.

Last year, floods cost the insurance industry £800m and more than 10,000 homes have been affected in the past 18 months.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
