More than half of UK organisations still have no plans in place to manage the risks associated with asbestos in the workplace, revealed a Zurich Municipal survey.
It showed that 66% of organisations had no plans in place, although the same number of organisations said health related risks at work were a major concern for them.
Zurich Municipal said the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations, which are due to come into effect on 21 May 2004 had only resulted in a 14% increase in awareness.
Zurich Risk Services managing director Roger Cottell, said: "Our research clearly shows that not all companies are on track of getting asbestos management plans in place and awareness needs to increase dramatically if companies do not want to be caught out by the deadline date."
