Private sector union, Amicus, is seeking assurances over job security from Aviva following its announcement that it plans to open a new call centre operation in India.

Amicus said it expects to be "fully involved" in discussions with Aviva regarding the call centre's impact on the job security of Aviva's 30,000 UK staff.

Amicus national secretary Dave Fleming, said: "This announcement and the recent trend of finance sector companies outsourcing jobs to lower cost employment areas suggest that the tight regulations affecting the insurance sector is having a serious impact on UK jobs.

"I will be continuing meetings with senior management so that the company fulfils its partnership agreement with us and undertakes full and meaningful consultation so that it send a positive message to its 30,000 UK workers."
