The US Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers has spoke out against allegations of widespread fraud and corruption inside the industry.
Responding to the New York attorney general's scathing attack on US insurers and brokers, president of the council Ken Crerar said it would challenge claims of widespread fraud made by Spitzer.
Crerar said: “We categorically challenge assertions that fraud, bid rigging and kickbacks are commonplace in the insurance brokerage industry.
“It is wrong to translate a handful of isolated charges into an indictment of an entire industry."
Crerar also doubted whether contingent commissions could be portrayed as unfair.
"While isolated bad actors created a corrupt scheme to limit real choices for some customers, the role of contingent commissions in this evil equation has been irresponsibly hyped and misrepresented," he said.
Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
