Leading US insurer, American Transit Insurance, is calling for New York taxicabs to be fitted with "black boxes" to give it more information on the circumstances surrounding accidents.
American Transit Insurance, which insures 80% of New York's taxis, is in talks with IBM to get the project off the ground.
The insurer is reported to be demanding the boxes in a bid to gather more accurate information from car claims.
IBM and Aviva's motor unit, Norwich Union, yesterday revealed plans to install black boxes in 5000 volunteer cars to test a "pay as you drive" insurance policy.
