Aon Risk Services has joined forces with software development company WebDetect to stamp out the £500m computer crime.
Under the partnership, Aon will have exclusive distribution rights across the UK's insurance and risk management sectors for WebDetect's computer tracking system, which traces stolen PCs and laptops.
WebDetect technology interrogates the machine to build an individual fingerprint by recording all available component identification and serial numbers.
In the event of the computer being reported stolen and subsequently reconnecting to any external email, internet or fax line, WebDetect can trace its new location within minutes.
Michael Eve, chief executive officer of Aon Risk Services commented: "We are delighted to have formed this partnership with WebDetect. It is a further demonstration of our commitment to providing added value services to our clients and to reducing losses for the insurance industry."
