H&H Group's subsidiary, Borderway Insurance Brokers, is now offering whole herd foot and mouth insurance.
The Carlisle-based broker is initially offering the cover to its existing clients in Cumbria, Dumfries, Galloway and Northumberland. It will then be available to non-clients who register after 26 April, subject to demand.
Borderway's director Kevin Coulthard commented: "Until now, we have only been able to offer foot and mouth insurance cover on individual animals bought at pedigree sales through Harrison & Hetherington.
"We understand that other insurance companies will not be offering whole-herd foot and mouth insurance cover until at least the middle of the year.
"We are pleased to be able to provide this early opportunity for farmers to cover themselves against losses due to the disease," he added.
The insurance can be tailored to include cover for brucellosis and tuberculosis.
