Willis has brought a former US senator onto its board of directors.

The global broker appointed Bill Bradley, who served on committees overseeing senate finance, intelligence and energy.

The Democrat sought nomination to become president from 1998 to 2000.

Before entering politics, Bradley was a top basketball player, earning an Olympic gold medal in 1964.

From 1997 to 1999 Bradley was a senior adviser and vice chairman of the international council of JP Morgan.

Willis chief executive Joe Plumeri said: "He is a statesman with international stature and his perspective will be invaluable as we continue to execute our vision to build the world's greatest insurance brokerage."
