Winterthur Insurance has acquired Swiss medical advice provider medi-24. The move is aimed at expanding its position in the European health market.

Winterthur, a member of the Credit Suisse Group, said medi-24's services would be combined with those of its own subsidiary Medvantis.

Medvantis, an information provider that operates in tandem with existing medical services, will use medi-24 to enter the Swiss health market.

Medi-24 serves 1.2 million insureds in Switzerland. This will boost Medvantis's customer base to over 12 million people across Europe.

Medi-24 will operate in the market as medi-24/Medvantis Schweiz.
