Torrential downpours across England and Wales has led the Environment Agency to issue 81 flood warnings mainly across the North East.
Early reports said York had been hit by extreme flooding and the City centre was under 4ft of water. Stretches of the Aire and Calder were put on high alert last night.
Other flood alerts were concentrated in the Midlands, Wales and the South East.
