RSA UK chief executive Adrian Brown was today gunged by staff at the insurer’s Leadenhall Street offices.

As part of RSA’s 300th birthday celebrations, staff registered more than 5000 votes to gunge Brown, unless he could raise the equivalent amount in cash for charity in under 15 minutes.

Brown frantically contacted industry pals for donations but was just short of his target after the time lapsed. However he expects to smash the figure, with proceeds going to the Insurance Charities.

It was then left to one lucky colleague who had bid for the privilege to soak Brown in the slimy blue gunge.

Brown said: “I’m delighted that the UK business has already raised over £170,000, since the 7th of April.  As part of the festivities today, I reluctantly agreed to get ‘gunged’ unless I could raise £5,000 in donations from friends and business associates in 15 minutes.

“When the clock stopped I’d raised a fantastic £4,500 but sadly not enough to avoid the gunge.  The phone calls and emails keep coming so my total is still going up - I knew I should have argued for extra time!  All the monies raised are going to the Insurance Charities which is a great cause and I am glad that RSA could help in such a big way.”

Also on the receiving end of a gunging were commercial managing director Paul Donaldson and HR director Vanessa Evans, as well as UK underwriting & strategic claims director Neil Lightbown and UK finance director Caroline Ramsay.

Yesterday, RSA hosted a pantomime horse derby at Goodwood Racecourse (see photos, right).
