The latest insurance stories online

For days preceding the 2010 Budget, online coverage of the anticipated event dominated news headlines across the web. Leaving aside the main talking points – such as the relief on stamp duty for first-time buyers and a 10% rise in cider – there were also plenty of issues connected to the insurance industry.

Online visitors clambered onto the site in the hours after chancellor Alistair Darling’s speech to find out how the Budget would affect them. Online subscribers were treated to our ‘Budget 2010: insurance sector round-up’, which delivered all the headlines direct to their inbox.

Insurance premium tax was the main issue that brokers were hoping for some changes to, and they were relieved to find out that revisions had been made to the draft legislation announced in the pre-Budget report – a reaction reflected in the story’s ranking in our most popular stories this week.

Other popular sites also covered the Budget in detail, such as the BBC and Financial Times, with both dedicating large sections of the sites to specialist coverage. There was also plenty of tweeting going on as people made their thoughts known via #Budget2010.

Elsewhere on the Insurance Times site, readers rushed to read news of Oval’s latest acquisition, and equally as popular was the latest development in Allianz’s Darren Bent credit hire appeal.

Our exclusive on the departure of Prime Professions founder Tony Blyfield also caused a wave of traffic.

Keep an eye out for coverage of our first IT Pack event of the year, and don’t forget your fantasy football teams ahead of those all-important Easter weekend fixtures.
