Oliva to shift focus to international from UK business

Lloyd’s broker Cooper Gay & Co has changed the name of its managing general agency to Globe Underwriting from Oliva Underwriting.

The change is part of a decision to focus the MGA on international instead of UK business. The new Globe Underwriting will initially focus on international marine, cargo and professional indemnity.

Cooper Gay has sold the Oliva brand to Oliva directors Cliff Browne and Paul Bennett in a management buy-out.

“We are now focused on building Globe Underwriting into an international MGA that benefits from the considerable synergies created by working closely with other Cooper Gay Swett & Crawford Group businesses,” said Cooper Gay & Co international chief executive Chris Butcher in a statement. “While Oliva’s current UK based business model is non-core for Cooper Gay, it will provide an excellent base on which Cliff and Paul can build a strong UK regional underwriting business.”
