Allianz has been named as a client of rogue private investigators on a list handed to MPs by the Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca), according to The Times.

The list was compiled by Soca and contains 102 firms that it believes used jailed ‘blaggers’ Dan Summers and John Spears, who used unlawful methods to obtain personal information on their targets.

A spokesman for Allianz said: “Our contracts are quite clear that any investigations carried out on our behalf must comply with the law including both the Human Rights and Data Protection Acts. We would only consider using investigators if we had strong suspicions that a claim was fraudulent or that the evidence did not support a claim as presented. We condemn unequivocally, any attempt to obtain information unlawfully.”

Aon has previously been revealed as also being named on the list.

MPs had given Soca a deadline of Monday 9 September to publish the list, but the agency refused to follow the order saying it would jeopardise ongoing investigations. MPs have warned that failure by Soca to meet the deadline will result in parliament revealing the names instead.
